As the years pass by, we learn to manage bleeding from the knicks and scrapes that occur in “normal” everyday life. In My NW CPR classes we take bleeding control to the life-threatening level. As adults we carry around 1.5 gallons of blood in our bodies. If someone were to lose half of that volume of blood, their life would be unlikely to continue. This much blood loss can occur in a matter minutes. Immediate action is critical. In every class from My NW CPR, we cover the techniques that abate rapid blood loss. Bleeding caused by large cuts, punctures, and bullet wounds are discussed and participants practice with torniquets and preform wound packing.
